The History of Rose Hill Apartments

The Rose Hill Community was one of the first apartment buildings on Route 3 in West Chester, PA.  Established in 1965 by a young builder and concrete contractor named Gus Zarelli, these garden apartments were well planned and contain structural elements that are hard to find in new residential Multi-unit homes.

Raised in West Phila., most thought Gus’s plan to build on the trolley path to West Chester was an outrageous idea.  No one would venture so far west of the city to live in an apartment!  Yet only five years after his initial investment the apartments were near full occupancy.

1n 1975, he added another 68 apartments and a convenience center.  Today the center has a restaurant, hair salon, tattoo and piercing salon, and a fitness center.
